The Journey Begins – Chandigarh to Spiti Valley
Your adventure starts in Chandigarh, leaving behind the plains as the road climbs steadily into the Himalayas.
Travelling through Shimla and the beautiful valleys of Kinnaur, the route follows the Sutlej River before gradually entering the high-altitude landscapes of Spiti. This gradual ascent is intentionally designed to help your body acclimatize safely while allowing you to witness the changing scenery—from green forests to barren Himalayan deserts.
Passing through picturesque villages such as Nako, Tabo, and Kaza, you finally arrive at Langza, where your trekking adventure begins.
Langza – The Fossil Village
At an altitude of approximately 4,420 metres, Langza is one of Spiti’s most picturesque villages.
Millions of years ago, this region lay beneath the ancient Tethys Sea. Even today, marine fossils can be found in the surrounding mountains, earning Langza its reputation as the Fossil Village.
Overlooking the settlement is the magnificent Buddha statue, standing peacefully against the backdrop of snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Langza offers spectacular views while introducing visitors to the tranquil lifestyle of Spiti.

Komic is home to the historic Tangyud Monastery, an important centre of Tibetan Buddhism that has stood for centuries overlooking the valley.
Beyond the village lies Komic La (4,700 metres), the highest point of the trek. From the pass, panoramic views stretch across the dramatic landscapes of Spiti before the trail descends towards Demul.
Demul – A Village That Welcomes You Like Family
Far removed from modern tourism, Demul offers one of the most authentic cultural experiences in the Himalayas.
Guests spend the night with local families in traditional mud homes built to withstand the harsh Himalayan winters.

The ancient Dhankar Monastery, built into the cliffs more than a thousand years ago, remains one of the valley’s most significant spiritual sites.

Here, the trekking portion of the expedition comes to an end.
Tabo – The Ajanta of the Himalayas
From Dhankar onwards, the journey continues by road.
A short drive brings you to Tabo, home to one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas.
Founded in 996 AD by the renowned Buddhist scholar Rinchen Zangpo, Tabo Monastery is often referred to as the Ajanta of the Himalayas because of its priceless murals, clay sculptures, ancient manuscripts, and meditation caves.
It remains one of the most important centres of Buddhist heritage in the Himalayan region.
Mudh – Gateway to Pin Valley National Park
Leaving Tabo behind, the road enters the spectacular Pin Valley National Park.
Nestled among towering mountains, Mudh Village is the last inhabited settlement in the valley and the gateway to several iconic Himalayan expeditions.
The village is surrounded by vast alpine landscapes, making it one of the most scenic locations in Spiti.

The expedition concludes with one of the most spectacular drives in the Himalayas.
Crossing Kunzum Pass (4,551 metres), the route visits the legendary Chandratal Lake, known as the Moon Lake for its crescent shape and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Surrounded by towering peaks, Chandratal is one of the most photographed alpine lakes in India.
From here, the road descends through the beautiful Lahaul Valley before reaching Manali, marking the end of an unforgettable Himalayan journey.
