Where the Changthang Wilderness Reaches the Sky
Rising above the pristine waters of Tso Moriri in the remote Changthang Plateau of Ladakh, Kiagar Ri (6,104 m) is one of the Indian Himalayas’ most captivating 6,000-metre summits. Far removed from crowded trekking routes, this expedition offers an extraordinary blend of high-altitude mountaineering, untouched wilderness, and the rich nomadic heritage of the Trans-Himalaya.
The journey begins in the historic town of Leh before venturing across the vast landscapes of Changthang—a region of shimmering alpine lakes, sweeping grasslands, and dramatic mountain ranges that stretch endlessly towards the Tibetan Plateau. Home to the Changpa nomads and an abundance of rare Himalayan wildlife, this remote frontier offers a sense of solitude found in very few places on Earth.
As the expedition progresses, careful acclimatization and expert guidance prepare you for the ascent of Kiagar Ri. The summit route climbs steadily through rugged scree slopes and expansive alpine terrain, culminating in an unforgettable panorama overlooking Tso Moriri, the snow-covered peaks of the Zanskar Range, the Changthang Plateau, and the distant mountains of western Tibet.
More than simply reaching a 6,000-metre summit, Kiagar Ri is an expedition into one of the last great wildernesses of the Himalayas. It is a journey of endurance, exploration, and quiet discovery, where every step reveals the raw beauty of Ladakh and every summit rewards those who seek adventure beyond the ordinary.
